The Examining FASD Diagnosis ECHO is a virtual learning network that will explore the necessity of establishing a holistic system of care to support those impacted by prenatal alcohol exposure. The series will feature the expertise of those with lived experience and professionals in screening, assessment, and evaluation, as well as treatment integration.

Case Management: A Five-Part Training Series
The Family Services Training Center at the UAA Center for Human Development is excited to offer a five-part case management training series. The series will comprehensively cover the process of case management, introducing necessary skills and supportive tools to utilize in providing best practices related to case management.
New case managers should start with the first course, while more experienced case managers can go directly into the phases of case management. The phases will feature an in-depth dive with scenarios to practice refining case management skills. Each of the trainings will cover topic-specific documentation tips.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Identify different tools/ways to monitor progress during this case management phase, along with strategies to adjust the plan when needed. We will review the transition process and identify signs of readiness for the Transition phase.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention (Copy)
Offered by the Family Services Training Center, Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper training is an emergency mental health intervention for suicidal persons. QPR is a basic education program that teaches everyday community members how to recognize a suicide risk and how to get a person at risk the help they need. It is also an action plan that can result in lives saved.

We will work on identifying how we help clients define their vision and what an outcome statement is using the SMART test (goals). We will explore the differences between enabling and empowering.

Increasingly, federal and state donor agencies are requiring that their grant recipients meet and uphold CLAS (Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services) standards in clinical work environments. In support of this overarching goal and meaningful organizational change, the Northwest ATTC is inviting Alaskan agencies to participate in a targeted training and technical assistance opportunity.
The Alaska Training Cooperative: Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid for Adults teaches people how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults ages 18 and older, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions. When more people are equipped with the tools they need to start a dialogue, more people can get the help they need.
Family Services Training Center: Tools for Working with Families - Substance Use in Families
It’s safe to assume that as you work with families, you will be supporting families where substance use disorders are an issue. These concerns are a pervasive, ongoing challenge for many families in Alaska. In this session, you will develop an understanding of use disorders and what makes changing behavior so difficult. We will look at approaches to helping families who struggle with these situations and how to best intervene. All who work with families in Alaska will build tools that are effective and respectful to those who are hurting.

Using Motivational Interviewing (MI) in Individual Service Planning is a workshop designed to increase providers’ capacity to deliver evidence-based practice, especially when treating people who have substance use challenges. The Neuro-relational Framework: The Effects of Trauma and Adverse Experiences on Brain Development
This training is an introduction to the field of neurobiology. It will examine the effects that trauma and adverse experiences can have on brain development, ways that participants can begin working on the healing process and how the brain responds to stress.
Peer-Centered Crisis Simulation Training (Copy) (Copy)
The Alaska Department of Health, in collaboration with the University of Anchorage Alaska, has put together a Peer-Centered Crisis Simulation Training. This Peer-Centered Crisis Response simulation training intends to provide a safe learning environment for members of crisis response teams to collaboratively engage in their unique roles with community members in crisis who need supportive, compassionate, and least restrictive interventions and services. This simulation involves an “unfolding” scenario that incorporates the various settings and approaches through which clients can be supported by the Crisis Now model, including a Crisis Call Center, a Mobile Crisis Response Team, and a Crisis Response Center.

Intake
Collateral information is a large part of the intake process. During this training we will define collateral information, along with strategies for doing so. We will also explore tools and steps to completing an initial assessment.
